Doctoral programs, which are research-oriented, usually admit candidates who have already earned a master's degree in this field of study. For at least three reasons, Durkheim's answer was an emphatic no: first, the occupational conscience affects only the occupational life, beyond which the individual enjoys much greater freedom; second, the occupational conscience is shared by fewer individual minds, has commensurately less authority, and thus offers less resistance to individual transgressions than its collective counterpart; and third, the same causes (i.e., increased volume and density) which progressively undermine the conscience collective have a similar, if less dramatic, effect within the occupational group.

In 1974, ACAS was called as the Conciliation and Arbitration Service.... When that nonpartisan strategy failed, as it did in the reaction following World War I, an independent political strategy took hold, first through the robust campaigning of the Conference for Progressive Political Action in 1922, and in 1924 through labor’s endorsement of Robert La Follette on the Progressive ticket. John Dunlop, labor economist and Harvard economics professor, who served, among other positions, as the United States Secretary of Labor (1975-76), developed a model of industrial labor relations that provided a framework for understanding industrial labor relations and for identifying and implementing improvements in industrial labor relations.
