If light waves behaved like particles, could matter particles also behave like waves? If you truly understand the behaviour of water waves - the way they interact with each other, the exact way the ripples 'curve' around obstacles - then you can have no trouble understanding accoustics, the propagation of light, or even basic quantum mechanics. The wavelength is the distance between two like parts of the wave. And when they say medium, it's what is the wave going through? Considering the quantum physics we have a proof that the wavelength of matter waves is very small. So, functions-- mathematicians can invent crazy functions, things like a function that is one for every rational number and zero for every rational number.
